Global terror outfits planning to attack RSS offices, leaders with vehicle-borne IEDs: Intel

SOURCE: TIMES NOW

Fresh inputs received by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) have warned the authorities of a possible terrorist attack in the country targetting offices of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), as well as its leaders.

The latest input issued this month claims that the global terror groups can use improvised explosive devices (IED) and vehicle-borne IEDs (VBIED) to target the RSS offices and its leaders in Maharashtra Punjab, Rajasthan, etc.”Unknown individuals, possibly linked to global terror groups are planning to target RSS offices/leaders and police stations, using IEDs and VBIEDs in the coming days,” it claims.

The alert issued by the IB has asked all the concerned state governments to take appropriate steps to thwart any untoward incident, news agency ANI quoted sources, as saying.

A top government official has said that the security has been heightened in states of Maharashtra, Delhi, Punjab, UP and Assam and they’re reviewing the security arrangments of RSS leaders.

There have been several cases of attacks on the RSS workers in the past.

Recently, Bengaluru police arrested six people in connection with an attack on RSS activist Varun Bopala who managed to survive after being stabbed multiple times.

The RSS activist was attacked while he was returning from a rally in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The accused were identified as members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI). However, the SDPI denied any association with those arrested in the case.

Bengaluru police commissioner Bhaskar Rao said the accused were part of a larger conspiracy and allegedly wanted to trigger chaos at pro-CAA demonstrations. He also alleged that they wanted to target prominent Hindu figures.

Last December, an RSS worker received bullet injuries after he was attacked by two bike-borne men in Kolkata.

RSS is an Indian right-wing, Hindu nationalist, paramilitary volunteer organization that is widely regarded as the parent organisation of the ruling-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
