Officers, men who laid down their lives while fighting Chinese in Galwan to receive gallantry awards

SOURCE: TIMES NOW

Apart from the 20 officers and men who laid down their lives fighting the Chinese in Galwan in June last year, gallantry awards are likely for some of the injured and those involved in post-Galwan actions, occupying tactically important positions in East Ladakh.

All 20 officers and men who laid down their lives will receive gallantry awards and Colonel Santosh Babu, who commanded the battalion of the Bihar Regiment has been nominated for a ‘major’ award. The Sena Medal is the minimum any of the 20 is likely to be awarded with.

Some of those officers and men injured in the fighting– and a large number were– have been nominated.

About 50,000 Chinese soldiers are in the East Ladakh area. They are supported by tanks, artillery and air-defence weapons. India has had to place troops facing them as a defensive measure.

Also nominated are officers and men of the armoured mechanised infantry regiments who helped to secure important positions post-Galwan. They have been involved with the movement of tanks and BMPs or armoured personnel carriers.

Those responsible for securing the tops of important peaks and other important locations will also be honoured.
